Irish Medtech proudly supports Irish Powerchair team

The Irish Medtech Association, the Ibec group that represents the medtech sector, is proud to be the lead sponsor of the Republic of Ireland Powerchair Football Squad ahead of 2019 European Powerchair Football Association Nations Cup in Helsinki, Finland, 22-26 May.

Irish Medtech Association Director, Sinead Keogh, said: “For nearly 50 years powerchair football has been giving people with disabilities, notably muscle diseases, an opportunity for empowerment by playing sport as part of a team.

“Since powerchair football became an international sport in 2005, Ireland has been at the forefront of developing clubs and competing in leagues as well as international tournaments. We’re excited to support the Republic of Ireland Powerchair Squad as they head to Finland to take on the European Powerchair Football Association Nations Cup.

“This team of men and women have already made names for themselves with wins for their clubs, now they’ve an opportunity to represent their country. As the 6th ranked team in the world we know they’ll do Ireland proud and we encourage people to support them by following their progress online.”

Team Ireland Powerchair Football Manager John Moore, said: “Ireland is recognised as one of the top countries for powerchair football. The inaugural European Nations Cup was successfully held in Limerick five years ago, hosted by the Football Association of Ireland and Association of Irish Powerchair Football. This year, if we place in the tournament top five we should qualify for the upcoming World Cup in Australia. Having won last weekend’s Tri-Nations tournament ahead of Northern Ireland and Scotland, we go to Helsinki in good form. I’m confident that the hard work that the Ireland squad has put in at training will pay off.”
